Circle Vee Shoes
Every Little Bit Helps
Every little bit helps, especially when it comes to sustainability for the world we live in. Making changes to the way we do things, even small ones, can add up to a big impact. This is the approach we took with the Circle Vee.
Vans looked at every little bit that goes into making a shoe and made adjustments-from the one-piece knitted natural upper to the sculpted for all-day comfort VR3Cush™ biofoam drop-in midsole and the full-length VR3Waffle™ rubber outsole. We even developed construction methods to reduce glues and excess material.
Our team has set ambitious sustainability goals. Big or small, all of our efforts add up to positive change. To earn the VR3 Checkerboard globe logo, at least 30% of the product must be made up of recycled, renewable, and/or regenerative materials.
• VR3CUSH™ INSOLE: The VR3Cush™ drop-in footbed is made using 70% biobased PU foam (Fates™) partially sourced from plants per ASTM D6866-16 reference standard. This footbed provides ultimate all-day comfort and support with a molded heel cup and arch shape.
• ECOWAFFLE™ OUTSOLE: All of the rubber used to make this outsole (60% of the compound) is regeneratively grown natural rubber sourced from farms utilizing agricultural practices that are intended to promote biodiversity, enhance water cycles, improve soil health and/or sequester carbon. This natural rubber compound was developed and engineered to maintain the grip and durability Vans has been known for since ’66.
• ORGANIC COTTON BLEND UPPERS: The Circle Vee upper knit is made of 50% organic cotton and 50% hemp, giving this forward-thinking shoe a natural, classic Vans DNA look and feel while minimizing excess waste in the footwear manufacturing process. The upper is stitched directly onto the outsole to help reduce the amount of adhesive used, and all linings and laces utilize organic cotton, hemp, and jute natural fibers.
